Australian defense company Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has recently unveiled the world’s most affordable high-energy laser weapon, a 150-kilowatt system called Apollo, capable of destroying up to 200 drones in a single charge, without firing a single bullet or requiring external power.
The mobile and modular system marks a global first for a combat-ready laser of this power class, already exported to a NATO country, according to EOS.
"EOS has developed its high-energy laser weapon to meet the urgent market need and emerging strategic requirement to defend against drone swarm attacks at an economical cost,” said Dr. Andreas Schwer, CEO of EOS. “There is strong international interest in high-energy laser weapons, and it’s increasingly clear they will play a central role in counter-drone defense."
One of Apollo’s most striking features is its mobility and autonomy. The entire weapon system fits inside a standard 20-foot container and can operate completely off the grid using its internal power supply. On battery alone, Apollo can carry out more than 200 engagements, each capable of burning drones out of the sky in seconds.
